Future Shed Frome opens its doors

The Future Shed Frome team are excited to be launching more in-person meet-ups and support for conversations and new projects that help our town become even greener and healthier. From the end of September, the Future Shed will be hosting monthly practical workshops and fortnightly drop-in sessions – completely free and open to all. We’re creating a space where people can share ideas, get coaching and support to bring them to life, make new connections and learn new skills, so that everyone’s equipped for a greener, healthier future.

On Sunday 26 September, the Future Shed will be hosting the first of a workshop series called “Kitchen medicine to help the climate”. Participants will be working with local herbalist Steph Wehowski to understand the potential of local seasonal plants to help support our health, as part of a healthy lifestyle.

Staying fit and well is a little known way that we can reduce our impact on the planet. The NHS in England emits around 20 million tonnes of carbon a year – greater than the amount produced by all the planes taking off from Heathrow each year. By preventing ailments and reducing our demand for medicines where we can, we can help the health of the planet too. Workshop attendees will experiment with new ingredients, as they make connections between their health and the health of our environment, as well as hearing the beautiful stories behind Steph’s recipes.

Free tickets for the “Immunity boosters and carbon reducers” workshop, 2-4pm, Sunday 26 September at the Welsh Mill Hub (part of Great Big Green Week)- are available via www.edventurefrome.org/future-shed. You can also find tickets to the later workshops happening in October and November via the same link – “Infection prevention without the plastic” and “Coughs and colds without the cost”.

Keep your eyes peeled for fortnightly Future Shed meet-ups that will start in October. The team look forward to welcoming you to drop-in sessions on Fridays at the Welsh Mill Hub. Reach out to Hannah for a virtual chat in the meantime –  greenhealth@edventurefrome.org.

The Future Shed is part of the Green & Healthy Future for Frome Programme, which is a partnership between Edventure: Frome, Frome Medical Practice, Frome Town Council and our local community. The programme is funded by The National Lottery Community Fund.
