Frome Seed Library
Frome Seed Library is a permanent community seed swap born from the dedication of its founder, Kerry Meech and her team of volunteers. You can find the seed library, and the library garden, at Frome Library in Justice Lane.
We encourage and enable seed sharing and saving so that growing your own is affordable for everyone. We are free and open to all including those who don’t have seeds to donate.
Borrow seeds, grow your seeds, harvest your crop, save some of your seeds and donate them back to start the cycle all over again. Over 900 packets of seed were distributed in our first year and each year we plan to distribute even more. You can find the seed donation and sharing box on the ground floor of Frome Library near the entrance.
The outdoor garden at Frome Library, with edible and pollinator friendly plants grown by children from donated seed, launched in June 2023 as part of Great Big Green Week.
With Future Shed residency support, Frome Seed Library runs:
- Sprouts, a monthly gardening club at the library for children and their adults
- Seed learning and garden design sessions in Frome’s Primary Schools
- Workshops in new and existing community gardens
- Seedy Socials, seed sorting evenings and sessions for people living with dementia
- Growing experiments with beans!

About Frome Seed Library
The seed library was born out of a partnership initiative of Edventure’s Future Shed, Gaia Foundation, Loop Frome, Frome Field 2 Fork and artist Cherry Truluck. Frome Seed Library was set up in July 2022 by Kerry Meech, who manages the project supported by a small team of volunteers, working in partnership with Somerset Libraries.
Frome Library Garden – Community in Action
A tale of a community in action – be inspired by all the different people and groups around Frome pulling together to bring the Frome Library Garden to life – beautifully captured by local Frome filmmaker, Richard Dimery.
