Frome’s Cycle Together Scheme

Cycle Together

Thanks to funding from The National Lottery Community Fund, Frome has been able to create a series of new initiatives that are good for people’s health and the health of the planet. A Green & Healthy Future has been developed through a town-wide partnership with Frome Town Council, Edventure: Frome, Frome Medical Practice and the local community.

Cycle Together is one of the new initiatives and is being delivered by Frome Town Council with Pronto Bikes. The scheme allows people to borrow an e-bike, plus essential cycling accessories, for four weeks so that they can trial the bikes and tackle Frome’s hills (of which there are many!) all the while improving their health whilst reducing pollution and congestion. Participants will also receive six hours of guided rides. The scheme is completely free to participants and anyone can take part.

Emma Parker, Project Officer at Frome Town Council, said: “The whole programme is based on the fact that people’s health and the health of the planet are intertwined – if we improve one, we’ll also improve the other. Cycle Together has been a really exciting project to be involved in. The benefits are enormous from obvious things like improving physical activity levels and reducing car dependency, to creating new social opportunities, feeling more connected to the local community and to nature, gaining new skills and increasing confidence. I think we’re going to need more bikes!”

To find out more about the scheme and to register your interest in taking part visit the Cycle Together page or contact Emma Parker via email or on 01373 481 956.

Other initiatives being offered to the local community through the funding include The Future Shed: planning and matchmaking people and ideas; Healthy Homes: support to save energy and resources at home; and Green Community Connectors: training to explore taking positive steps to improve our planet and our general wellbeing.
